{"id":1718,"date":"2010-01-05T21:56:24","date_gmt":"2010-01-06T05:56:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/niasomoves.com\/Rachaelsblog\/?p=1718"},"modified":"2010-01-05T21:56:24","modified_gmt":"2010-01-06T05:56:24","slug":"nia-class-focus-commitment","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/synergy-pt.net\/niablog\/nia-class-focus-commitment\/","title":{"rendered":"Nia Class Focus:  Commitment"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" title=\"http:\/\/farm3.static.flickr.com\/2580\/4249449165_066b538bf7_m.jpg\" src=\"http:\/\/farm3.static.flickr.com\/2580\/4249449165_066b538bf7_m.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"240\" height=\"217\" \/><\/p>\n<p><br class=\"spacer_\" \/><\/p>\n<p><br class=\"spacer_\" \/><\/p>\n<p><br class=\"spacer_\" \/><\/p>\n<p><br class=\"spacer_\" \/><\/p>\n<p><br class=\"spacer_\" \/><\/p>\n<p><br class=\"spacer_\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The focus of our Nia practice today, chosen at random from the cards for 2010, was &#8220;commitment.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Whenever we see a word with the prefix, &#8220;com-&#8221; we know we&#8217;re in the field of relationship. \u00a0&#8220;Com-&#8221; is from the Latin, <em>cum<\/em>, meaning &#8220;with.&#8221; \u00a0We are in relationship with . . . everything.<\/p>\n<p>The suffix of &#8220;commitment&#8221; is from the Latin,\u00a0<em>mittere<\/em>, &#8220;to send,&#8221; &#8220;to place,&#8221; &#8220;to put,&#8221; &#8220;to throw,&#8221; &#8220;to release.&#8221; \u00a0This tells us commitment involves some kind of motion with another, be it with oneself, another being or a state of being.<\/p>\n<p>We could say that commitment is\u00a0to be with what is placed before us. \u00a0We could say that commitment is the state of being thrown together with another, blown\u00a0by the winds of chance into this very moment. \u00a0Or that commitment is the motion of releasing one&#8217;s heart with another.<\/p>\n<p>Commitment says I am moving in relationship. \u00a0I&#8217;m being sent, placed, tossed or released in relationship. \u00a0Maybe the motion of my commitment is with a friend, a partner, a path. \u00a0Maybe the motion of my commitment is with my body, the Earth, the Holy.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" title=\"http:\/\/farm5.static.flickr.com\/4058\/4250305634_d7607d5b9c_m.jpg\" src=\"http:\/\/farm5.static.flickr.com\/4058\/4250305634_d7607d5b9c_m.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"240\" height=\"160\" \/><\/p>\n<p><br class=\"spacer_\" \/><\/p>\n<p><br class=\"spacer_\" \/><\/p>\n<p><br class=\"spacer_\" \/><\/p>\n<p><br class=\"spacer_\" \/><\/p>\n<p><br class=\"spacer_\" \/><\/p>\n<p>In the Nia practice, we call the ring finger\u00a0the &#8220;commitment finger.&#8221; \u00a0Each finger carries a unique energy. \u00a0The energy of commitment moves along the shoulder blade, up and down the back of the arm and the ring finger. \u00a0This meridian, the Triple Warmer, guides the motions of <em>chi<\/em> and fluids through the body.<\/p>\n<p>Placing the commitment finger and the thumb &#8212; the nurturing finger &#8212; together with each other creates the\u00a0<em>prithvi mudra.<\/em> It&#8217;s a practice for\u00a0cultivating patience and tolerance, both of which are useful in relationship.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" title=\"http:\/\/farm5.static.flickr.com\/4037\/4250166272_775766f4cc_o.jpg\" src=\"http:\/\/farm5.static.flickr.com\/4037\/4250166272_775766f4cc_o.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"227\" height=\"296\" \/><\/p>\n<p><br class=\"spacer_\" \/><\/p>\n<p><br class=\"spacer_\" \/><\/p>\n<p><br class=\"spacer_\" \/><\/p>\n<p><br class=\"spacer_\" \/><\/p>\n<p><br class=\"spacer_\" \/><\/p>\n<p><br class=\"spacer_\" \/><\/p>\n<p><br class=\"spacer_\" \/><\/p>\n<p><br class=\"spacer_\" \/><\/p>\n<p>What is the sensation of commitment? \u00a0What is the sensation of moving in relationship?<\/p>\n<p>Gravity shows that the Earth is committed with us, and we with the Earth. \u00a0The Earth and my body are thrown together in relationship by gravity, the attraction of two masses for each other. \u00a0I can feel the Earth&#8217;s commitment, her motion toward me, and with every movement, every step, and every time I make contact with the ground, I can feel the motion of my commitment with the Earth.<\/p>\n<p><br class=\"spacer_\" \/><\/p>\n<p><br class=\"spacer_\" \/><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The focus of our Nia practice today, chosen at random from the cards for 2010, was &#8220;commitment.&#8221; Whenever we see a word with the prefix, &#8220;com-&#8221; we know we&#8217;re in the field of relationship. \u00a0&#8220;Com-&#8221; is from the Latin, cum, meaning &#8220;with.&#8221; \u00a0We are in relationship with . . . everything.
