She has a BA in Religion and Dance from Oberlin College and a Master of Science in Physical Therapy from Pacific University.<\/p>\n<p>Rachael has been in private practice as a physical therapist since 1997. Prior to that she was on staff at\u00a0Providence Portland Medical Center, where she was a member of the Oregon Osteoporosis Center team, specializing in the care of people with low bone density. She taught popular osteoporosis group exercise classes, and gave frequent public presentations to health care providers and patient groups.<\/p>\n<p>Rachael leads classic Nia classes and Nia Moving To Heal classes\u00a0at the <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.dancespaceashland.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">DanceSpace<\/a><\/span> in Ashland, Oregon. \u00a0She offers seven-day\u00a0<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/nianow.com\/white-belt\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Nia White Belt<\/a><\/span> trainings to become a\u00a0Nia teacher and for personal growth. \u00a0Rachael is co-creator of <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/nianow.com\/the-bodys-way\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Body&#8217;s Way<\/a><\/span> training with Nia founder Debbie Rosas. \u00a0The Nia Technique was created in 1983 by Debbie Rosas and Carlos AyaRosas as a holistic fitness and self-healing practice based on the joy of movement. \u00a0Nia blends dance arts, martial arts and healing arts, such as modern and ethnic dance, T\u2019ai chi, yoga, and Feldenkrais, and is taught in over 50 countries world-wide. \u00a0(To learn more, visit <a href=\"http:\/\/www.NiaNow.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">www.NiaNow.com<\/a><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">.<\/span>)<\/p>\n<p>In addition to her Nia black belt, Rachael earned a green belt in Shotokan Karate\u00a0from\u00a0Sensei Aaron Ortega. \u00a0She has taught yoga at Evergreen Yoga Center in Portland and Breitenbush Host Springs. Rachael was a member of the Oberlin Dance Company, Portland State University&#8217;s The Company We Keep, Lisa Jeli Dancers, and Cynthia Chimienti Dance Company.<\/p>\n<div class=\"page\" title=\"Page 1\">\n<div class=\"layoutArea\">\n<div class=\"column\">\n<p>Since 1977, Rachael has studied with leading teachers in mythopoetics, somatics, energetics and the arts &#8211; including William Irwin Thompson, Robert Bly, Joseph Campbell, Marion Woodman, Coleman Barks, William Stafford, Mart\u00edn Prechtel, Rabbi Aryeh Hirschfield (zt\u201dl), Stephen Victor and Paul and Patty Richards.
